American senator Rick Scott said on Monday: “Turkey is not our friend. Just last week, Scott Basent, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, was forced to deal with them because they actively finance the terrorists of the [Islamic Republic of Iran] who are killing our men and women servicemembers.”

He said: “This is about protecting the security of our country and our families. Until every person who is connected to the evil regime of the [Islamic Republic of Iran], no matter who they are, is held accountable, we cannot rest.”

On September 4, the U.S. Treasury Department announced that, as part of “Operation Economic Exclusion” against the Islamic Republic, it placed the “Golden Global” bank based in Turkey and its branches on the sanctions list. The U.S. Treasury Department said this bank and its affiliated companies enabled the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to carry out transactions worth tens of millions of dollars and provided the Islamic Republic with the necessary access for international money transfers.
