🔶 Widespread fires in France, Spain and Italy

Widespread fires in western France and central Spain are still ongoing, with the flames engulfing large stretches of forests and residential areas near Bordeaux and Madrid. Officials say around 200,000 people have been forced to leave their homes, and firefighters have warned that some of these blazes are so large that direct firefighting is not possible.

On the Atlantic coast of France, 44,000 people were evacuated from the Cap Ferret peninsula, and many of them were transported by boat.

Around Bordeaux—renowned for wine production and a popular tourist destination—several towns have been evacuated as a precautionary measure. Strong winds have caused the flames to move closer to residential areas.
