🔶 Ousted leader of Turkey’s opposition establishes “new party”

Özgür Özel, the ousted leader of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), intends to continue his fight against Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the President of Turkey, by establishing a new party.

In a video aired by Turkish media yesterday, Friday, July 24 (2 Mordad), Özel is seen sitting behind a desk and signing relevant documents, including the founding documents of the “new party” (Yeni Parti).

Along with Özel, 90 other lawmakers of the Republican People’s Party—who until now had formed the second-largest parliamentary faction in Turkey with 135 seats—have left the party.

Thus, from now on, the “new party” will be the second-largest force in Ankara’s parliament with 90 lawmakers, after the ruling Justice and Development Party led by Erdoğan, with 277 representatives.
