According to a report by American media, citing informed government officials, Donald Trump, the U.S. president, has reached an understanding over a nuclear deal with Saudi Arabia.

As reported by The New York Times and the Reuters and Associated Press news agencies, citing unnamed government officials, the deal could allow the Saudi monarchy, within the framework of a civilian nuclear program, to enrich uranium. The Wall Street Journal had previously published the news.

The agreement paves the way for U.S. companies to help develop Saudi Arabia’s civilian nuclear industry. According to The New York Times, the U.S. administration, especially in light of the war with Iran, hopes to draw closer to Saudi Arabia through this deal and secure contracts worth billions of dollars for its nuclear industry.

According to these reports, news of the agreement—which will be valid for 30 years—is set to be officially announced today, Wednesday, July 22 (31 Tir).
