A new development in the Thursday morning attacks was the targeting of a Saudi oil tanker in waters between the coasts of that country and Yemen, which, according to the Houthis, was carried out with the aim of implementing a maritime blockade against Riyadh.
This is the first attack on commercial vessels since Saudi Arabia announced a maritime blockade by Yemen’s Houthis, and it could, if fighting expands, lead to a broader front from the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea to the Bab al-Mandab strait.
