Saudi Arabia’s official news agency, citing a responsible source at the General Authority for Transport of Saudi Arabia, announced that the oil tanker “Anslia,” owned by one of the Saudi companies, was targeted while passing through the Red Sea, after which the ship’s front section caught fire.
Earlier, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency had also confirmed the attack on the oil tanker in the southwest of the coastal city of Al Shaqeeq, Saudi Arabia, and said that despite the fire, the ship’s crew are in good health and no signs of environmental hazards caused by an oil spill have been seen.
The maritime body invited ships to exercise greater caution when transiting the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab.
Earlier, the Iran-backed Houthis had reported attacks on the two oil tankers “Anslia” and “Lila.” According to reports, only damage to one of the two tankers has been confirmed.
