Behrouz Asadi, one of the founders of the human rights organization Pro Asyl, warned about the impact of Europe and Germany’s stricter immigration policies on the handling of cases involving Iranian refugees.

On Wednesday, 18 Shahrivar (September 9), on the 40th anniversary of Pro Asyl, one of Germany’s most important institutions defending the rights of refugees, Asadi told Deutsche Welle that, in light of the suppression of opponents, civil activists, journalists, and human rights defenders in Iran, authorities should demand a thorough, independent, and fair review of every asylum request.

According to Asadi, Europe’s stance regarding violations of human rights in Iran should not be accompanied by ignoring the individual risks faced by asylum applicants. He noted that the process of seeking asylum in Europe and Germany is still ongoing, and this process should not be used as a pretext to disregard the right to a fair, individual examination of asylum requests.

Behrouz Asadi, who has worked with Pro Asyl for four decades, emphasized that “election considerations” should not affect the right to asylum and human dignity in Germany and Europe.
