🔶 New record; the dollar rate in the free market reached 225,000 tomans
Amid rising tensions between Iran and the United States and increased pressure on the Islamic Republic, the dollar rate rose again to a figure that has never been seen before.
According to Iranian domestic media, as prices continued to climb and amid the prevailing unrest in Iran’s currency market on Saturday, September 5 (14 Shahrivar), the U.S. dollar’s rate in the free market was bought and sold at an unprecedented figure of 225,000 tomans. Other major currencies were also traded at high levels.
On Saturday, the price of the euro reached 261,440 tomans, the pound 305,760 tomans, and the UAE dirham 61,760 tomans.
A sharp decline in oil exports, narrower access routes to currency, and the fall of the rial have added fresh pressure to Iran’s economy. According to experts, these pressures have not only targeted the revenues of the Islamic Republic government, but the effects have spread—from production and imports to households’ purchasing power.
