🔶 Karim Khan removed as chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court

ICC member countries removed Karim Khan, the organization’s chief prosecutor, from his position. Representatives of these countries, at an extraordinary meeting in New York, voted overwhelmingly in favor of the resolution related to his dismissal.

Payövi Kaokoranta, the chair of the Assembly of States Parties to the International Criminal Court, the body that oversees the Court’s performance, said that the Assembly concluded that Khan committed “serious misconduct” and “egregious violations of his duties.”

In June, Karim Khan was suspended from carrying out his duties by the International Criminal Court after allegations of sexual abuse were raised. The British jurist had also announced about a year earlier that he would step down from his duties until the end of the investigations.

According to reports, Khan spent more than a year trying to compel one of his staff members to engage in a sexual relationship. He denies these accusations. The 56-year-old jurist claims that these allegations are part of a plot against him and a retaliatory action due to his investigations into officials of the Israeli government.

A UN commission reviewed these allegations and prepared a report on the matter in December 2025, but this report has not been published to date. The International Criminal Court has also provided a legal opinion based on these investigations, and that, too, has not been published so far.
