🔶 Greenpeace warns about 5 oil slicks in the Strait of Hormuz

The environmental organization “Greenpeace,” citing satellite images, has reported the existence of five large oil slicks in the Strait of Hormuz.

Greenpeace said in a statement released Tuesday, September 15 (September 24), that the pollution has reached, among other places, Iran’s coasts and areas near protected zones around Qeshm Island, including mangrove forests.

According to this environmental organization, in the southern part of the strait, on the shores of Oman, a large oil slick has also been seen. This area is considered an important habitat for birds.

Based on Greenpeace’s assessment, it is possible that other oil slicks in the region are caused by the oil tanker “Riesco.” A scenario described in the report could indicate “the sinking of this ship and the continued leaking of oil from it.”

Earlier, the United States announced that it had attacked the oil tanker “Riesco” and other tankers linked to the Islamic Republic. Iran, for its part, has attacked several ships in waters in the region.
