🔶 US Central Command rejects IRGC claim about tanker “Al Gaiya” hitting a sea mine

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) on Monday, September 14 (23 Shahrivar), rejected the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ claim that the tanker “Al Gaiya” struck a sea mine in the Strait of Hormuz, calling it “false.”

This military body, in a post on the X network (formerly Twitter), claimed that the tanker had been targeted by an Iranian missile last month and had become inoperable.

In its post on X, CENTCOM also stated that Iran this past weekend targeted the tanker “Al Gaiya,” which was located in coastal waters of Oman, again with a drone. According to the U.S. Central Command, the tanker is currently being towed by one of its regional partners.

CENTCOM added in its post: “The false claim by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is another example of this force’s lies and attempts to sow fear in order to prevent the transit of commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz.”

Earlier, Iranian domestic media, citing the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy, had reported that the tanker “Al Gaiya,” which “intended to cross the prohibited area in the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz,” exploded as a result of hitting sea mines.
