🔶 European Union condemns Houthi attack on Saudi oil tanker

The European Union described an attack by the Iranian-backed Houthi militias in Yemen on a Saudi oil tanker in the Red Sea as “unacceptable” and “illegal,” and condemned it.

Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, said on Thursday, July 23 (Mordad 1), that the attack “further aggravates an already highly unstable situation in the region.” She urged the Houthis to stop all actions that endanger international shipping and the lives of sailors, and to comply with international law.

The Houthis announced they had attacked two Saudi oil tankers only a few days after declaring what they called a “naval blockade in the Red Sea.”

Saudi officials said one of the ships was hit and a fire broke out on board.

Accordingly, during Iran’s war, another front appears to be forming as well. Kaja Kallas called the move a “dangerous escalation of tensions.”
