CNN, citing a knowledgeable source and a U.S. official, reported that JD Vance, the deputy president of the United States, and Dan Kin, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, expressed concern at a Friday meeting at the White House about the consequences of escalating the war with the Islamic Republic.

Kin specifically warned about the reduction of important U.S. munitions stockpiles and said the military could successfully carry out the military options desired by Donald Trump, but that these actions would have potentially negative consequences.

CNN sources said that a small number of Trump’s close associates or Pentagon officials believed that escalation of the conflict would bring about the president’s desired results.

At the same time, despite considering a broader attack, Trump had instructed his negotiators to continue the talks.

CNN wrote that the stockpiles of some key U.S. weapons have been reduced significantly, and that continuing the war could put further pressure on them.

In response, the Pentagon emphasized that the U.S. military still has the weapons and capabilities necessary to carry out Trump’s orders.
