Boris Pistorius, Germany’s defense minister, speaks in Washington on Tuesday with Pete Hegseth, his U.S. counterpart, about closer cooperation between defense industries.

According to Bloomberg, the two sides are expected to sign an agreement that would allow European companies to produce some American weapon systems under license.

Ahead of the meeting, Pistorius said in a statement: “If we tie our capabilities more closely together, we can deliver systems that we and our NATO partners immediately need for deterrence and defense faster and in greater numbers.”

He referred to existing agreements that have made it possible to build parts of the F-35 fighter’s airframe and guided missiles for the PAC-2 Patriot system in Germany.
