Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel, called the “Naza” documentary about how the country sets its military objectives in Gaza part of a “global wave of incitement against Jews.” At the same time, more than 200 Israeli filmmakers backed the creators of this documentary.

Netanyahu, criticizing Yuval Abraham and Rachel Sur, Israeli creators of “Naza,” said they have shown the Israeli army as “a war criminal.” The documentary is based on interviews with intelligence officers and soldiers present in the Gaza war, and it received a special award from the jury at the Venice Film Festival.

Eyal Zamir, the Chief of Staff of the Israeli army, also described the film as an attempt to undermine the legitimacy of the Israeli army and government, and ordered an examination of possible legal actions regarding it.

In response, Haaretz reported that more than 200 Israeli filmmakers, by signing a petition in support of Abraham and Sur, warned about an “unprecedented campaign” against the film’s creators and the possibility of threats to their lives, and called for support for freedom of expression and artistic creation.
