A faculty member of the University of Tehran’s College of Environmental Science, in an interview with ILNA news agency, said that if the current situation continues over the next five years, the water crisis in Tehran will become permanent and water to homes will be cut off as a normal occurrence. Mehdi Ismaili Bidehendi cited climate change, the continuation of drought, and the methods of supplying and consuming water as the main problems in this area, and noted that the timing for reaching the point of “irreparable” water supply for Tehran is not definite. He emphasized that if conditions continue along the same trend, the capital will reach a permanent and irreversible crisis within the next five years. This university professor said that once this point is reached, many urban green spaces cannot be irrigated, and water outages for homes will become a routine part of life for many Tehran residents for much of the year.
