🔻UK, US and Dutch intelligence and security agencies in a joint warning have published details of what they say is a cyber-surveillance campaign through which Iran-government-affiliated actors target opponents, activists, and journalists in different countries.
According to this warning, the attackers, posing as friends and acquaintances or as a messenger support employee, win people’s trust and then encourage them to install an apparently legitimate application or open a file, such as a medical test result.
The organizations say the malware installed in this way can gain access to the victim’s messages, emails, and personal information, take screenshots from the computer screen, and, in some cases, record the audio and video of online meetings.
The three agencies have also released technical information and recommendations to identify attacks and reduce the risk of device infection. The Netherlands’ intelligence service also said that the identified victims of this malware in that country were made aware of the issue.
