🔻Iran’s support for the Houthis over denial of an attack on Mecca

Ismail Baghaei, the spokesperson of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, warned against the use of “false flags” regarding the Houthis’ attack on Mecca.

In a message, Mr. Baghaei, while condemning “any interference with Islamic sacred sites,” wrote: “Solely an allegation about tracking a drone along the route to Mecca is not enough to hold someone responsible.”

He, pointing out that the Houthis have denied such an attack, wrote: “We should not forget that our region has witnessed several cases of false-flag operations, particularly in recent months,” and he said the purpose of such reports is “to sow discord among Islamic countries.”

Houthi officials denied reports this morning about targeting Mecca.

This comes while Saudi Arabia yesterday accused the Houthis of carrying out a “cowardly” attack on the city of Mecca, the most sacred city for Muslims.
