The U.S. House of Representatives will vote on Wednesday on a broad sanctions bill aimed at increasing economic pressure on Russia due to its attack on Ukraine and increasing sanctions on Iran.
The bill, now named the “Lindsey Graham Russia and Iran Sanctions Act of 2026,” passed the Senate last month with 86 votes in favor and 11 against. Approval in the House sends it to the White House, and Donald Trump plans to sign it.
The bill targets Russia’s energy and defense industries and the “shadow fleet” of sanction-evasive oil tankers.
It also allows Trump to impose heavy tariffs on China, India, and other countries so as to reduce their dependence on Russian oil and gas, and to apply new sanctions on Iran.
Volodymyr Zelensky, president of Ukraine, had previously met with U.S. lawmakers to urge them to approve the bill.
