Trump on attack on Saudi pipeline: I think it was Iran’s work

🔸Donald Trump, the President of the United States, said on Saturday, September 21, during his trip to Ireland that he expects the situation related to Iran to be resolved.

🔸He also said Iran was likely responsible for an air attack on Saudi Arabia that led to the shutdown of the East-West pipeline in this country.

🔸In Dublin, when asked by reporters whether Iran was responsible for the attack on this vital oil pipeline, Trump said: “I think they were responsible; probably it was themselves.”

🔸Trump’s remarks were made as Saudi Arabia, after a drone attack from Iraqi territory, temporarily closed its strategic East-West pipeline, and the Iran-backed Houthis strengthened their position in one of the most important shipping routes in the world by seizing the island of Perim in the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait.

🔸According to Reuters, when asked whether, given new concerns about Saudi Arabia, he could help with maritime passage through the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said: “Everything will be sorted out well.”

🔸Reuters also reported that Mohammed bin Salman, the Saudi Crown Prince, has asked Trump for military assistance to confront the Houthis, but Washington has so far only agreed to information-sharing and help in identifying targets.

🔸Donald Trump arrived in Dublin for a two-day trip and is scheduled to meet with Ireland’s President, Catherine Connolly, and the country’s Prime Minister, Michael Martin. The concerns of Irish officials about Iran’s war and trade issues will likely be among the topics of these discussions
