❌ The temporary ceasefire, brokered by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), was implemented on Saturday morning around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which is under Russian control, in order to enable repairs to an external power line that had been damaged.
The plant has been disconnected from external power since August 20 and has relied on emergency diesel generators to keep critical safety systems running.
Ukrainian technicians are expected to repair the damaged Ferosplavna power line after clearing the area around it of mines.
Alexey Likhachev, the head of Rosatom, said the ceasefire is expected to last about a week, but warned that repairing the line would not necessarily guarantee the return of external power to the plant.
