According to reports, after the retreat of Yemen government forces, the Houthis captured the strategic island of Mi’un (Buraim) at the entrance to the Bab al-Mandab strait.

Reuters, citing sources in Yemen’s government, reported that government forces withdrew from the island of Mi’un.

The island of Mi’un (Buraim), which is sometimes called the Bab al-Mandab island, is located in the middle of this strait and divides it into two waterways.

Hours earlier, it was reported that the coastal city of Zubab had also fallen into the hands of the Houthis, almost completing their control of the Bab al-Mandab strait, which is of vital importance for the export of Saudi Arabia’s oil.

Houthi allies of Iran control large parts of northern Yemen. Last week, they launched a broad attack on Yemen government forces backed by Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, Houthi-affiliated media said today that Saudi Arabia carried out dozens of airstrikes, and in the latest attacks, twice bombed the airport in Mocha.

The port of Mocha has also fallen to the Houthis in recent days.
