🔶 Senate’s opposition to limiting Trump’s war powers against Iran

The U.S. House of Representatives, led by Republicans, on Thursday, July 23 (July 1), backed a resolution that requires Donald Trump, the U.S. president, to halt military action against Iran unless he receives authorization from Congress; however, the Senate, just a few hours later, voted to block a similar and separate bill.

The vote in the House of Representatives, which is the latest rebuke and opposition by Congress to Trump, was approved with 214 votes in favor and 208 against, with the support of four Republican lawmakers alongside Democrats, for a resolution to limit the president’s war powers.

But within a few hours after the House vote, the Senate rejected the proposal to limit Trump’s war powers, voting 49 against and 47 in favor.
