🔶 New York Post: Oman Quietly Rejects Iran’s Request to Collect Tolls in the Strait of Hormuz

The newspaper "New York Post" has reported that Oman has quietly rejected Iran’s request to collect a joint services-fee from commercial ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz. A senior regional official told the newspaper that Muscat has not agreed to collect these fees, even voluntarily, under titles such as environmental and security services. This comes as Iran, in recent weeks, had claimed that Tehran and Muscat had reached an agreement on the plan.

Donald Trump, the U.S. president, had previously threatened that if Oman agreed to collect tolls for passage through the Strait of Hormuz, it would bomb the country. As written by the New York Post, in addition to Trump’s threat, the United States’ naval blockade against the Islamic Republic would also mean that any agreement to collect tolls would, in practice, be ineffective without Washington’s approval.

A U.S. official told the New York Post last week that the terms of a possible revenue-sharing agreement had not even been finalized by Tehran.
