🔶 Iranian Writers’ Association condemns executions in Iran: the right to life is not a government privilege

“The Iranian Writers’ Association,” in a statement, strongly condemned the issuance and implementation of death sentences in Iran and emphasized: “No crime, no charge, and no circumstances can make taking a person’s life a lawful act and call it a ‘punishment.’”

In the statement, published on Thursday, 12 Shahrivar (3 September), the executions were described as “an explicit face of repression,” and their public implementation was characterized as “a display of power and the creation of terror in society.”

In its statement, the Iranian Writers’ Association said that “the lack of free access of the accused to a lawyer, prolonged detentions and families’ lack of information, confessions obtained under physical and psychological pressures, ‘indefinite sentences’—during which, for the sake of release from the exhausting conditions, the accused say whatever is demanded” is only part of the widespread pattern of violations of the rights of the accused within the judiciary system of the Islamic Republic.
