🔶 Main candidate of Germany’s Christian Democratic Union: This is democracy

Sven Scholz, prime minister of the state of Saxony-Anhalt and the leading candidate of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), conceded his party’s defeat and congratulated AfD’s electoral victory.

He, however, did not explain what path he and the CDU would take from this point onward.

Scholz also pointed to high voter turnout in this state’s election and, saying that the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) had managed to secure a decisive victory, stated: “I say, this is democracy.”

He added: “People conveyed a message with their votes, and now we must deal with that message and think of a solution for it.”
