Based on the projected results, the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party is set to win 39 seats in the new state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt—three seats fewer than an absolute majority, and therefore three seats fewer than the threshold needed to be able to form a government and rule on its own.

It is predicted that the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) will win only 16 seats, which is the worst result for this party in Saxony-Anhalt since the reunification of Germany.

Predictions also indicate that the Greens will win 8 seats and the Social Democratic Party (SPD) will win 7 seats.

Although these results may still change, it currently appears that forming a coalition—whether for AfD or for other parties—will be difficult.
