Kuwait, which has been targeted for two weeks by daily missile and drone attacks from the Islamic Republic, plans to sell U.S.-dollar bonds on Wednesday.
According to an informed source, the country has engaged banks including Goldman Sachs and Citigroup to arrange a three-tranche offering with maturities of three, five and 10 years.
Kuwait’s economy, one of the wealthiest countries in the world due to oil reserves, has come under pressure this year. By closing the Strait of Hormuz, the Islamic Republic has stopped more of Kuwait’s oil exports, and, according to a Goldman Sachs estimate in April, its budget deficit has risen annually to nearly 40%.
Since tensions flared again, Kuwait has been targeted by the Islamic Republic’s attacks more than any other country, and U.S. bases as well as power plants and water facilities in the country have been damaged.
