🔻Fourth anniversary of the Woman, Life, Freedom movement; “strike” by shopkeepers and bazaar merchants in Kurdish areas of Iran

🔻Images shared on social media report a strike by shopkeepers and bazaar merchants in several Kurdish-populated areas of Iran on the fourth anniversary of the death of Mahsa Zhina Amini.

Videos from Sanandaj, Saqqez, Oshnavieh, Paveh, Divandarreh, and Kermanshah have been released showing the closure of shops and parts of the bazaar. Some reports also indicate the presence of security forces in Sanandaj and Saqqez.

An alliance of Kurdish political parties had previously called on shopkeepers, bazaar merchants, and other groups to join the general strike on Wednesday, 25 Shahrivar, coinciding with the anniversary of Zhina Amini’s death.

In the days leading up to the strike, reports were also published about pressure being placed on shopkeepers to keep their shops open. The Kurdistan Human Rights Network and the Hanaa Human Rights Organization reported the arrest of two citizens in Sanandaj after they were summoned to the Places of Business Administration in connection with the strike call.

Zhina / Mahsa Amini, 22, was killed in Shahrivar 1401 after being detained by the Guidance Patrol (Gashte Ershad). Her death led to widespread protests across Iran under the slogan “Woman, Life, Freedom.” Since then, on the anniversary of her death, strikes and gatherings have been held in some cities of Iran and around the world.
