Farzin Karbasi, a political analyst and journalist, said that the closure of some borders between Iran and Iraq has made this situation several times more harmful to Iran’s economy than to Iraq’s, and that Baghdad is not willing to exchange goods worth a few hundred million dollars while facing the economic pressure of the United States.

He added that although the Iraqi government does not have a great deal of control over the Islamic Republic’s proxy forces, it does control the borders, and by applying this control it is seeking to assert its national sovereignty.
