As many as five people have died and 42 others have been rescued after a fire broke out on the MV June Aster ferry off the coast of Palawan province in the western Philippines, the country’s Coast Guard reported.

The fire started on Wednesday evening. According to the GMA News TV channel, 117 passengers and 17 crew members were on board.
