🔶 The Board of Governors referred Iran’s file to the UN Security Council; Beijing, Tehran and Moscow react

Two diplomats told the French news agency that the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency, by adopting a resolution, referred Iran’s nuclear file to the UN Security Council; an action that was carried out with support from the United States and three European countries and prompted a sharp reaction from Tehran, Beijing and Moscow.

According to the French news agency, the resolution referring Iran’s case to the Security Council was adopted by the Board of Governors of the Agency with 23 votes in favor, 3 against, and 8 abstentions.

Based on this report, Russia, China and Niger voted against the resolution.

This is the first time in the past 20 years that the Agency’s Board of Governors reports Iran’s case to the Security Council over alleged violations of non-proliferation commitments.

In response to this vote, the Islamic Republic called the Board of Governors’ resolution “biased and political.”

Tehran says that Western parties first created the current situation by attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities and disrupting the normal verification process, and now are using that same disruption as the basis for fresh pressure.
