🔶 Andy Burnham becomes the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom
Andy Burnham became the new Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Great Britain today, Monday, July 20 (29 Tir). Charles III, the King of Britain, tasked this leader of the Social Democratic “Labour” Party with forming a government.
The former mayor of Greater Manchester will be replaced by his party colleague, Keir Starmer, the former prime minister, who had announced his resignation in June following intense pressure.
Burnham, who has earned the nickname “King of the North” in Manchester because of his popularity, has since a few weeks ago become the Labour Party’s main hope for pulling the country out of the crisis.
During Starmer’s tenure, the Labour Party won a decisive victory in the summer of 2024, but due to internal disagreements it was never able to fully take advantage of its parliamentary majority. The populist right-wing “Reforms of Britain” Party has also, for months, been leading in some polls with a significant margin.
