🔶 After the Shalamcheh border, the Chazabeh border between Iraq and Iran was also closed
Iraqi officials have temporarily closed the Chazabeh border crossing in Khuzestan province; previously, the Shalamcheh border crossing had also been closed by Iraq.
Valiollah Hayati, the security and public order deputy of the governorate of Khuzestan, announced on Saturday, 21 Shahrivar (12 September), that passenger and cargo transit through the Shalamcheh and Chazabeh crossings has currently been halted, and that traders, drivers, and passengers are asked not to visit these two border crossings until further notice.
No further details have been announced yet about how long these crossings will remain closed.
The closure of Iraq’s borders with Iran took place after a drone strike on Friday, 20 Shahrivar, from Iraqi territory to Saudi Arabia. In response to the attack, the Iraqi government dismissed a military commander in Maysan province and sealed the Shalamcheh border crossing with Iran.
