Aerial videos by Spain’s Civil Guard show thick smoke and burned areas around Madrid on Friday and Saturday. Fires in Madrid and Ávila have displaced nearly 80,000 people and have burned more than 9,000 hectares. For the first time, Spain has declared a national emergency situation and has deployed more than 2,000 rescue personnel and 10 aircraft to contain the fires.

Spanish officials have described the Madrid fires as the worst fire recorded in the history of the region.
