The head of Sabzevar’s Cultural Heritage department, regarding the destruction of the “Russian Caravanserai,” told Fars News Agency: “Steps had been taken to register this building in the list of national works. During this period as well, the area was recognized as a historic site and was introduced in the official maps as a valuable spot. In this sense, in order to destroy this place, they must definitely obtain an inquiry from the Cultural Heritage.”

Majtaba Kavian said that, however, the municipality had issued a “demolition warning letter.”

Mr. Kavian said about this building that the “Russian Caravanserai” had been a gendarmerie during Reza Shah’s era.

He said that this “municipality violation” will be pursued through legal channels.
