According to information received by “IranWire,” at least 350 prisoners held in the quarantine ward of Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad have gone on a hunger strike. This action began in protest against mistreatment by prison staff toward prisoners and the dire conditions faced by inmates in these wards. According to informed sources, on Tir 10, 1405 (July 2026), security officers and wardens of this prison severely beat one political prisoner on the charge of “insulting the officers.” Witnesses say the beating was so severe that the prisoner became unable to control urination and defecation. For this reason, in protest of this conduct, about 350 prisoners in this ward went on a hunger strike on Tir 10 by refusing to eat the midday meal.
