Why don’t the clerics have a sense of humor?

Shaker Borri is a humorist whose work is neither the product of television and cinema nor affiliated with any political group. His working tool is a mobile phone, and his media is a page that millions of people follow. He puts officials’ statements alongside the reality of people’s tables and lives, turning contradictions into a kind of humor that everyone understands and shares with one another.

Now, the Criminal Court of Abadan has sentenced Shaker Borri for publishing a critical video about Mousa Gaznfarabadi, the representative of Bom, on charges of “spreading falsehoods,” to 13 months and 20 days of discretionary imprisonment, and for “insulting a member of parliament,” to a fine of four million and 500 thousand tomans.

When satire targets the holders of power, the government no longer sees it as a joke; it sees it as a threat.
