🔻Why don’t everyone in Silicon Valley believe the sharp warnings about artificial intelligence?

Every September, a number of the most prominent executives across Silicon Valley go to the Palace Hotel in San Francisco to attract the attention of investors at a conference organized by the investment bank Goldman Sachs.

Amid talks about growth and the potential returns on investments, the tech giants were forced to also address another issue: the sudden resignation of Jacob Coxson, a researcher at Anthropic.

The 27-year-old Coxson, who worked at OpenAI before joining Anthropic—the company’s main rival—said that AI makers believe this technology could destroy humanity.

He said they are “betting with our lives,” adding: “These will soon be systems that are beyond human capability and that can hack anything.”

Coxson is by no means the first person in the AI industry to sound the alarm publicly. In recent years, several headline-making resignations at Anthropic and OpenAI reportedly occurred due to safety concerns. Even some current Anthropic employees repeated Coxson’s remarks.
