— U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent likened Canada to a “noisy little dog” that stirs up his 110-pound German Shepherd; according to him, the bigger dog did not react until “one day its tolerance ran out.”
With this analogy, Bessent criticized Mark Carney, Canada’s prime minister, and said that Canada had received a “great trade deal,” but backed out for political reasons.
He also said that the consequences of this dispute would not have much impact on the U.S. economy, adding: “I’d love for someone to show me a statistically meaningful effect of Canada’s tariffs on U.S. prices; with pleasure, I’ll debate it.”
