🔻 U.S. $5 billion arms deal sale to Saudi Arabia
The U.S. State Department has announced a contract to sell military equipment to Saudi Arabia worth $5 billion.
In a statement, the U.S. State Department said it agreed to Saudi Arabia’s request to purchase several thousand bombs and long-range missile guidance systems.
According to the ministry, in addition to the armaments, the contract will include “support equipment; spare parts, accessories, and technical-engineering support and logistics services.”
The United States said the deal is intended to “improve the security of a key ally” and “political stability and economic progress in the Persian Gulf region.”
The statement also emphasized that the deal will “enhance Saudi Arabia’s air defense capability to counter current regional threats.”
