🔶 “Trump paused attacks on Iran to give diplomacy more room”
Mike Waltz, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, said on Sunday to Fox News that Donald Trump has halted attacks on Iran to allow more opportunity for diplomacy. He said the U.S. president has given “a bit of space” for talks. At the same time, Al Arabiya reported that Iran and the United States have submitted their responses to a joint proposal by Qatar and Pakistan to return to the negotiating table.
Anadolu Agency also quoted a government source in Pakistan as saying that Tehran and Washington announced that they have agreed to “talks and diplomacy” to end the recent hostilities and return to negotiations.
According to Anadolu, the Qatar- and Pakistan-backed proposal asks both sides to return to the conditions prior to the start of the latest round of fighting.
Under this plan, the Strait of Hormuz must be reopened, and the United States must also suspend its oil sanctions against Iran.
A senior official of the Trump administration said on Saturday, in response to the halt in attacks, that the American president has always made it clear that his preference is diplomacy.
