He, while appearing before reporters together with Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the president of Turkey, when asked whether he is satisfied with the progress of NATO member European countries in increasing their defense budgets, said: “I’m very disappointed with NATO, and honestly, if this summit were not held in Turkey, where my friend is a very powerful leader and a very strong figure, maybe I wouldn’t have participated at all.” Trump added that the United States did not receive “proper behavior” from its allies because “it took action in Iran,” but that its allies did not support that country in the war in the Middle East that the United States began together with Israel.
