🔶 The number of civilian deaths in the war in Ukraine has risen sharply
According to the United Nations, the number of civilians killed in the war in Ukraine has increased sharply.
Daniel Bell, head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU), said in Geneva that the mission has “recorded 1,096 civilian deaths and 7,978 civilian injuries in the first half of this year.”
He added that this figure represents a 37% increase compared with the same period last year.
The UN Human Rights Office condemned several attacks in the past few days; attacks that left civilian victims across Ukraine as well as in Russia.
Saeem Al-Khitan, spokesperson for the UN Human Rights Office, said in remarks to reporters: “Civilians and civilian infrastructure are protected under international humanitarian law.”
He added: “Any deliberate attack of this kind constitutes a war crime.”
