Scott Bessent, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, in an interview with Newsmax about the goal of the United States in imposing sanctions on the Islamic Republic, said: “It’s not necessarily a matter of bringing down a government; although that may happen.”
Bessent said that perhaps people, because of 100% inflation, the formation of lines, and the fact that soldiers’ salaries are not being paid, could take to the streets in a uprising.
The U.S. Treasury Secretary added: “As Donald Trump said, the reason the memorandum of understanding failed was that the Iranians were not prepared for a deal. So we will make sure that they want to negotiate.”
