Russia’s foreign minister said that European leaders were “afraid to death” of the proposals by Donald Trump, the U.S. president, to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, and that they incessantly tried to thwart Washington’s efforts at compromise.
According to a report by the Russian state network RT, Sergey Lavrov accused NATO’s European members of trying to prevent Mr. Trump from returning to the ideas he had discussed last year in Alaska with Vladimir Putin.
The Russian foreign minister warned European countries about the consequences of a possible military confrontation with Moscow. At the same time, he reiterated Putin’s position that Russia does not intend to attack Europe.
Lavrov added that if European countries attack Russia, the war would be “of an entirely different kind” and “very short,” and would quickly lead to Europe’s defeat.
