🔸Reuters, citing two senior Iranian sources and three people familiar with the issue, says the Iranian government is using a mechanism similar to barter and bypassing sanctions to bring billions of dollars’ worth of goods, including military equipment, from China.
🔸In the report published on Thursday, 19 Shahrivar, sources whose names were not disclosed said that under this covert trade mechanism, Iranian oil in exchange for credit for imports from China in recent years has provided a vital financial lifeline for Tehran, at the same time as economic and military pressure from the United States has increased.
🔸They said the mechanism has also helped China, the world’s largest buyer of crude oil, gain access to discounted Iranian oil.
🔸As written by Reuters and cited in the report through sources it spoke with, Iran has used the mechanism to purchase medicines, vehicles, and communications equipment from China as well.
🔸Radio Farda is not independently able to verify the details of this report. China is considered one of Iran’s largest trading partners and the main buyer of Iran’s oil in the world.
