Makhdi Chamran: Buses and metro trains purchased from China cannot enter the country

🔸Makhdi Chamran, chairman of the Tehran City Council, following the continuation of the U.S. maritime blockade against Iranian ports, on Tuesday, 24 Shahrivar, announced that buses and metro trains purchased from China cannot enter the country.

🔸He said in the public session of the City Council, pointing to these metro trains at a port in China, that it is not possible to move them.

🔸According to the Iranian state broadcaster IRIB, Chamran explained: “The trains were built and tested based on 15% down payments, but due to the war of [their] transportation it was stopped and it is still stopped.”

🔸He also said about the export of buses from China that some of them have gone to Pakistan and that there are problems with transporting them.

🔸Chamran announced: “Pakistan is not an obstacle, but they must have the facilities to transport and move the 18-meter buses.”

🔸In Ordibehesht 1403, some members of the Tehran City Council had raised disclosures about the “ambiguous and non-transparent” contract of Tehran Municipality for importing electric buses with a Chinese company.

🔸However, some of these buses were later added to the capital’s public transportation fleet.

🔸The statements by the head of the Tehran City Council about the impossibility of transferring the trains and buses to the country come while the second round of the U.S. maritime blockade against Iran began on 23 Tir and is still ongoing.

🔸Some government-affiliated media outlets and officials of the Islamic Republic had said that despite the blockage of the sea transport of goods, it was possible to use road and rail routes of neighboring countries.

🔸In Ordibehesht, during the first round of the U.S. maritime blockade against Iran, Islamabad had said it would allow Tehran to use the ports of that country to send its goods.

🔸This is while, after a drone attack on the East-West pipeline of Saudi Arabia that Riyadh said was carried out from Iraqi territory, the Iraqi government last Friday ordered the Shalamcheh border crossing to be closed with Iran.
