🔶 Israel says it killed the man responsible for transferring the bodies of its three servicemen in the Oct. 7 attack

The Israeli army said that Hossam Shafai, a member of the East Khan Yunis Battalion affiliated with Hamas, was killed in an airstrike on Tuesday, July 14, in the south of the Gaza Strip.

According to the army, he was among those who took part in the Oct. 7, 2023 attack on Kibbutz Nir Am (a settlement in the south of Israel near the Gaza Strip), in the transfer of the body of Lt. Col. Asaf Hamami, the commander of the Southern Brigade of the Gaza Division, and two Israeli soldiers, Tomer Achimes and Kirill Brodsky.

The Israeli army also claimed that Shafai had participated in planning attacks against Israeli forces during the war and that he was a “threat” to this country’s forces in the Gaza Strip.

Asaf Hamami’s body was returned to Israel in November 2025 as part of a hostage exchange agreement, but the bodies of the other two soldiers had been found and transferred earlier during Israeli army operations in Gaza.
