🔶 Iran summoned Ukraine’s chargé d’affaires following an attack on a ship in the Caspian Sea
The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, following an attack by the Ukrainian army on an Iranian ship in the Caspian Sea, summoned Ukraine’s acting chargé d’affaires in Tehran.
At the same time, Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Abbas Araghchi warned Kaya Kallas, the EU’s foreign policy chief, in a phone conversation about the consequences of this attack.
Ukraine’s attack on targets of Iran, including a commercial vessel of the Islamic Republic in the Caspian Sea, took place on Saturday 3 Mordad (25 July) and resulted in the killing of a sailor and the injury of several others.
Manouchehr Moradi, assistant to the foreign minister and director-general for Eurasia, summoned Ukraine’s acting chargé d’affaires in Tehran and conveyed the Islamic Republic’s strong protest over what the Iranian Foreign Ministry called a “hostile and criminal action.”
The Iranian foreign ministry has threatened to punish the instigators and perpetrators of this attack. The ministry provided no further details about Iran’s possible response or the type of punishment it has in mind.
